Something for Everyone Allen Chapel AMEChurch has something for everybody, starting with our beautiful, very large church, and including children's church once a month.
We host several different events to benefit the community, such as a 3-on-3 basketball shoot for peace, and we provide laptops for college-bound seniors.
Our History Peter Blakely founded our church in September, 1891. The congregation met in a private home until December of 1891, when they were able to purchase a small home, located at 206 South Winnebago.
In 1920, the church was dedicated Allen Chapel Methodist Episcopal Church. In April, 2006, the congregation bought our current location at 3000 Rural Street. We are not only the oldest African-American church in our area, but the AME church as a whole is the largest in the world.
